Greetings,
This weekend the Mission District will host Pink Saturday in the Castro. Sergeant Limbert, the officers of Mission Station and I have been planning for the event along with event organizers and other City agencies for several months. Mission Station will have numerous officers present at the event to provide for public safety.
This year, like last year will be an alcohol free event. The event organizers are promoting this event as a neighborhood celebration for the LGBT Community. To assist with this celebration, police officers will patrol the venue and will be alert for persons possessing open containers of, or consuming alcoholic beverages, on streets, sidewalks and parks. Event organizers have arranged entertainment and a food trucks park will replace the main stage at Castro and Market Street. We ask all participants to help us make this a successful, peaceful and safe event.
I would also like to highlight an outstanding arrest made by one of our midnight officers. On Tuesday evening, I addressed the Mission Station night watch regarding recent garage burglaries in the district. Thieves have been targeting garages and stealing victims’ bicycles from them. I asked our midnight officers to be watchful for suspicious activity.
Later that same evening, Officer Martin Covarrubias was patrolling along the 600 block of Guerrero when he spotted a suspect attempting to break into a garage. Officer Covarrubias quickly arrested the suspect and brought him to Mission Station. Officer Covarrubias did not stop there. He then coordinated with Sergeant Arline Gilmore of our Station Investigation Team. Sergeant Gilmore conducted a search of the suspect’s residence and Mission Station officers seized over 40 suspected stolen bicycles, suspected narcotics for sale, additional stolen property and burglary tools. This is just one example of the outstanding work performed by the officers of Mission Station on a daily basis.
With Regards,
Captain Moser
