Greetings,
During this past week the Mission District hosted the second of four Sunday Streets. The event was largely attended with large amounts of people on both the Valencia and 24th Streets portions of the route. The event was peaceful and we only made one arrest for public intoxication. The next Sunday Streets in the Mission will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2012.
Burglaries are slightly up in the Mission during this reporting period (11%). We continue to see burglaries from garages. Rob Mackenzie from SFSAFE gave a very informative presentation regarding garage safety during our most recent community meeting. Please visit the SFSAFE website for other safety tips and resources. You may access the SAFE website via our home page at www.missionstation.org.
Although our burglaries are up 11%, our burglary arrests are up 300% during this reporting period. I would like to take a moment to highlight one such arrest. On June 1, 2012, a citizen reported two prowlers in backyard of her residence on the 900 block of Dolores. Mission Station officers arrived at the scene and searched the area for the suspects, but were unable to locate them. The officers obtained a detailed description of the suspects from the victim and broadcasted it via radio. Approximately one hour later, Officer Matt Friedman was in the area of 24th and Mission when he saw a suspect matching the description. Officer Friedman detained the man and the victim positively identified him. Officer Friedman arrested the man for attempted burglary. This case was a great example of the police and citizens working together to solve crime.
On another note, we recently reunited a bike owner with his stolen bicycle. The victim had his bike stolen in December of last year and recently saw it listed on our Mission Station website as a recovered bicycle. The owner found our website via a link from the SFWEEKLY and was happily reunited with his bike.
Have a Great Weekend.
