Welcome to Pride Weekend 2013. The festivities started early this year for us in the Mission with the Supreme Court rulings on Prop 8 and DOMA on Wednesday. The Castro was the sight of a large party celebrating the rulings. Thousands of people came to the Castro for the celebration and Mission Station officers were present to ensure the safety of all.
This weekend the Mission District will host Pink Saturday in the Castro. Lieutenant Limbert, the officers of Mission Station and I have been planning for the event along with event organizers and other City agencies for several months. Mission Station will have numerous officers present at the event to provide for public safety.
This year, like last year will be an alcohol free event. The event organizers are promoting this event as a neighborhood celebration for the LGBT Community. To assist with this celebration, police officers will patrol the venue and will be alert for persons possessing open containers of, or consuming alcoholic beverages, on streets, sidewalks and parks. Event organizers have arranged entertainment and food trucks will be located on Market Street east of Castro. We ask all participants to help us make this a successful, peaceful and safe event.
