This week Officers Antonio Balingit and Vincent Masilang were honored as 2012 Red Cross San Francisco County Heroes for an incident that occurred on January 9, 2012.
On that night, Officers Balingit and Masilang responded to a report of a missing juvenile. Officers Balingit and Masilang met with the distraught mother of the missing 17 year old girl. The mother explained to the officers that an acquaintance of her daughter promised to make the girl a movie star in an overseas country. The suspect had managed to lure the girl to the airport as the mother frantically attempted to contact her via phone.
Officers Balingit and Masiling quickly gathered the facts and knew that they had a very limited amount of time to act. The officers alerted US Customs, the FBI, the State Department and the US Embassy in attempt to stop this dangerous predator. Due to their continuous efforts, US Customs was able to arrest the suspect in Guam and safely return the girl to her mother. Had it not been for the quick actions of Officers Balingit and Masiling, the suspect would have been able to escape overseas with the girl and out of the reach of justice. Thank you, Officers Balingit and Masiling, for your dedication and service to the San Francisco Police Department and the citizens of San Francisco.
