Unfortunately the Mission District has experienced two homicides with guns over the past two weeks. The first occurred on Saturday the 20th at 16th and Caledonia. The second occurred on Wednesday the 24th on the 2800 block of Harrison Street.
In response, the SFPD and officers from Mission Station have focused extra patrols within the known gang territories. The Mission has received extra police resources in the form of officers from the Violence Reduction Task Force, the Gang Task Force, and our Solo Motorcycle officers. We have also been working closely with the Community Response Network and the Mayor’s office regarding violence prevention. We will continue our efforts in the area of violence prevention.
During this upcoming event-filled week, we will have extra police staffing to keep the Mission District safe. We want everyone to enjoy peaceful and fun celebrations of Halloween this Wednesday and Dios de los Muertos this Thursday. With Giants games this weekend and two possible additional games which would coincide with Halloween and Dios de los Muertos, we anticipate that the Mission District will be bustling with enthusiastic fans who we expect will celebrate respectfully, safely and legally.
