The month of October was a busy one for the SFPD and for Mission Police Station. During the month of October the Mission District was the location of several major events including the Castro Street Fair, Dia de Los Muertos, Halloween, spontaneous celebrations for the Giant's NLCS victory and of course, the World Series and the rioting that occurred afterwards.
Tragically, the Mission also saw three murders during the Month of October. The first one occured on 10/20/12 at 16th and Calidonia. The second one occured on 10/24/12 on the 2800 block of Harrision Street. The third occured on 10/30/12 at 20th and South Van Ness. Mission Station Officers arrested two suspects for the 10/30/12 homicide shortly after the incident. All three of these incidents were the result of gun violence.
In response to the violence, the Department devoted extra resources to the Mission Distrcit including officers from the Violence Reduction Task Force, the Honda Unit, the Solo Motorcycle Unit and the Gang Task Force. Officers from Mission Station also conducted several operation orders designed to target street violence. As a result of our efforts, Mission Station Officers arrested 24 suspects for robbery, 26 suspects for aggravated assault and 15 suspects for weapons violations during the past month. We will continue our violence reduction efforts into November.
