This week I would like to address auto thefts. As I have mentioned in previous newsletters, the Mission District
has seen an increase in auto thefts this year. We have noticed that many of the vehicles stolen have been 1990s models Hondas and Toyotas. People have recently asked me what they can do to prevent from being a victim of auto theft. First, park your vehicle in a well lit high traffic area. Thieves are attracted to quieter areas where there are less likely to be witnesses. Second, install a vehicle safety device such as an alarm or a steering wheel locking mechanism. These two simple steps can help you avoidbeing a victim of auto theft.
Officers from Mission Station have been actively patrol the district looking for auto thieves. Two of those officers, Officer Donald Anderson and Officer Josey Russell, recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested four suspects this week. What kind of cars were the suspects driving? You guessed it, Hondas. Our arrests for auto thefts are up 79% this year in the Mission.
Have a great holiday weekend,
Captain Bob Moser
